Ceyrac le Bas and its surroundings
CEYRAC, a charming little village in North Aveyron, is 30 kilometres from Rodez and 15 kilometres from Espalion. It is situated in the municipality of Gabriac, near the Gourg d’Enfer (Hell’s Gorge) in Bozouls and the Coulée de Lave (Lava Flow) of Roquelaure.
In order to get here, you should follow the road that leads from Bozouls to Saint-Geniez sur Olt. After some 10 kilometres of a narrow, winding country road, you will see on your left the village of CEYRAC.
CEYRAC and its hamlets have a year-round population of between 150 and 200 people. In the summer holiday period, the village population is doubled with the arrival of the « enfants du pays », the former village children, and also because of tourists who having once visited Ceyrac and having fallen under its spell, have chosen it for their second residence.
The principal activity is agriculture. This is relatively diversified since it includes numerous beef producers, the production of cows’ milk, the important production of ewes’ milk which serves to make that most noble of cheeses, the « ROQUEFORT GABRIEL COULET », and finally pig breeding.
